Sensei Dave Bendigkeit

would like to express his sincere gratitude to

Patricia Hendricks Shihan

for allowing him to teach Aikido at Shintaikido of Pacifica

in the form that he deems appropriate.

"Patricia Hendricks Shihan has put her blessing

on my teaching this Aikido class as I choose because

as she said: 'it will come from a place of integrity'."

- Sensei Dave Bendigkeit

AIKIDO means the "Way of Harmony with the Spirit." It is a martial art that teaches one to blend with and use the force of the attacker to control him. Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei. O-Sensei was a visionary who created an art which embodied a philosophy of protection for all beings. This included even those who would do us harm. True Japanese Budo, Aikido training helps the student to understand the roots of the martial spirit and to perform the most difficult techniques in the martial arts… those involving getting out of harm’s way and protecting your attacker. The unification of mind, body, and spirit creates a clarity and calmness which transfers to daily life. As Patricia Hendricks Sensei says, Aikido is a philosophy with physical expression.

In answer to many requests over the years, Sensei Dave Bendigkeit is very happy to be able to offer these classes in Aikido. He began his training in Aikido in 1967 with Robert Nadeau Sensei at the Mountain View Aiki Kai, and trained throughout the succeeding years, finally becoming a student of Patricia Hendricks Sensei at Aikido of San Leandro and receiving his Black Belt. Hendricks Sensei helped greatly in giving Sensei Dave a firm grasp of the concept of basic to advanced flow of technique. He will be passing on this approach to his students.

It is perhaps important to some potential students to understand that this Aikido class does NOT include rank or rank testing.

We participate in Aikido as a practice without a goal of titles and rank.
